Lashin Feed
the oldest source of protein in Egypt
01 Meat powder
• It is prepared by drying and grinding whole parts of the animal except hair, hooves, horns, blood, stomach contents, entrails and bones.
• The powder is used as animal protein sources in poultry diets.
• The standard specifications of meat powder stipulate that it should be sterilized, free of salmonella and coli, mold and rancidity, and the raw protein should not be less than 57%, and the raw fat should not exceed 16% and ash 10%.
• The drying process is carried out by using solar drying or industrial drying.
02 Solar Drying Method
It is made by making thin slices spread over a layer of sand and add a little salt to it for sterilization. After these slices are dried by the sun, it will be collected and then milled and packed. Meat powder which produced under optimized condition, if it dries up quickly before it becomes moldy, it may be high in nutritional value than the powder is dried by the industrial method, but it is faulty because it contains fat, which causes the meat powder to become very rancid.
03 industrial drying method
Industrial drying method:
• Sterilization:
The leftovers of meat to be dried are placed in sterilization ovens where heating is carried out by compressed steam up to a temperature of 120 for about an hour and a half.
• Drying:
This is done in sterilization ovens after reducing the temperature to 105-110 ° C where more than 90% of the existing moisture is evaporated, or they are dried in drying ovens equipped with fans to accelerate drying.
• Fat Extraction:
Fat is extracted from the materials after being dried while it is hot by a centrifuge.
• Milling:
The dried material is milled after extracting fats from it, and it is done by special electric mills.
• Packing:
The produced meat powder is filled in bags or sacks, and the meat powder must be free from mold, rancidity and coli salmonella.
The meat powder contains a raw protein between 55% – 60% and table salt should not exceed 4%. The meat powder is a good source of the amino acid lysine, but it is lack of tryptophan and methionine.
Meat powder is also a good source of calcium, phosphorous and vitamin B2 (riboflavin, choline and vitamin B12).
Meat powder is used in poultry diets to bridge the shortage of essential amino acids and is added to the diet up to 10% percent of the diet.
